Why This Reference Exists
Printed Dothan directories are now historical sources, while the records that replaced them sit in many places. Current ownership is kept by the Houston County Revenue Commissioner and Judge of Probate. Individual voter status comes through Alabama's My Voter Page. Dothan Houston County Library System, Wiregrass Archives, and the Alabama Department of Archives and History preserve different parts of the older trail. We bring the verified search routes, access limits, collection years, and office contacts together so readers can choose the right custodian without mistaking one record for a complete resident roll.
What the Directory Provides
- Pages by angle: the street directory (address-keyed records), the city directory (the historical shelf), and the resident lookup (one-person searches)
- Named custodians: the Revenue Commissioner, Judge of Probate, Circuit Clerk, City Clerk, health department, and historical repositories
- Practical methods: ways to trace a street, interpret an old directory entry, or follow one address backward
- Access boundaries: what Alabama law makes available, what stays restricted, and which request channel applies offline
Limits of Our Role
This is a privately operated reference site. It is not part of the City of Dothan, Houston County, the State of Alabama, any court, or any library. Those limits matter:
- We do not confirm whether a named person now lives in Dothan
- We cannot obtain, certify, or amend a government record for you
- We have no power to add or remove a person from an official database
- We do not provide legal advice on records or disputes
- We cannot guarantee that a portal, fee, hour, or coverage detail has not changed
Only the custodian office can confirm, certify, or correct a record. Nothing found through this site may be used for credit, employment, tenant, or insurance decisions.
